Not All Fugitives Are Bad

You know that strange kind of adhesive stuck to the back of every gift card you purchase or credit card received in the mail?

The one that everyone usually finds themselves playing with? Well this nifty little glue that sticks to the plastic and paper yet gets easily pulled apart is called fugitive adhesive.

Commonly called “credit card glue” or “booger glue,” it is constantly used by marketers and retail manufacturers. Every letter, postcard or other direct mail piece that has a tacky seal or promotional item attached to it uses this adhesive. You’ll also find fugitive adhesives all over the grocery stores, retail stores and even in gift baskets to hold items in place, such as bottles and containers. Fugitive adhesives are low tack and not re-sealable, which allows the adhesive to be removed from virtually any hard surface while making them easy to pull apart.

While the purpose of fugitive adhesives is the same, surprisingly they are available in three different adhesions - pressure sensitive, hot melt or air-dried water-based to add to their versatility.

Can you think of other ways this adhesive can be used?

Hey Jeff, I usually use fugitive adhesive for my craft and art projects. I normally do this with my kids and they love it. The last time we did it, we used a manila paper to glue a jet and a kit. Thanks for sharing this post, have a great day!
