What kind of support should you expect from your Hot Melt Adhesive Supplier and Hot Melt Application Equipment Supplier?
What if they were the same company???
Getting the necessary support from your adhesive and equipment supplier can be crucial to running an effective and efficient packaging operation. Yet, many companies that use these products may not even know what is possible! It’s safe to say that not every company operating in a hot melt packaging environment has experts on their staff at detecting or solving adhesive application issues.
"This lack of knowledge can make it very difficult when a problem arises. Further, at a time when adhesive choices are greater and technology is becoming more sophisticated, we are finding more and more that hands on support from suppliers is rare or non-existent."
Recently we were in contact with a very sophisticated warehouse that does repackaging and distribution for a very well known brand. They were kind enough to invite us in and to show us their packaging operation. Within seconds we could see that they were not receiving the proper support from their current suppliers.
The facility contained 7 packing lines, with 3 gluing stations per line:
- While observing the lines, we noticed two different problems immediately
- The first problem was that the adhesive being applied to the case was being dispensed improperly, causing it to string or cobweb.
- The second problem was the excessive amount of glue being applied.
Most people would believe that this was just a glue issue, but we knew we had to take a closer look at the equipment as well.
We found the company was using very old Nordson equipment. Upon further questioning, we learned that the lines were often down due to adhesive related issues, maintenance costs were high, and the correct replacement parts were extremely difficult to find.
HAR Adhesives Technologies invited back to perform a more extensive analysis of the operation in which we included a member of our equipment team. Our proposed solution was to begin using a Dynamelt SR Unit that, quite frankly, seemed extremely optimistic to the customer. To show our confidence in our solution we offered them a 90 day trial for one of their lines.
After 90 days they reported that the transition was smooth and the equipment worked just as we promised! The operation was running much cleaner and the glue was no longer stringing. They are finding the equipment is paying for itself with less down time, less stringing and less adhesive usage per carton.
If you are wondering if maybe you are not getting the support you deserve or you are not sure "what is possible", please feel free to give us a call. We would love to help solve your adhesive related problem and find a solution beyond your imagination.
