Okay, by now you know not all types of hot melt glue are the same. But how are they different? Here are four primary types of hot melt glues used in industrial adhesive applications:
EVAs (ethylene vinyl acetates): These are the most common hot melt glue adhesives which are widely used for packaging and product assembly (and your craft projects at home). General substrates for EVAs include wood, foam, paper and some plastics.
Polyethylene: Similar to EVAs, this hot melt glue works the same way for the same kinds of applications but is cleaner running (meaning less charring) for better heat stability.
Polyamides: These adhesives are often used for difficult to bond substrates or when you need high heat resistance. Applications for this hot melt glue include filters, electrical potting and manufacturing circuit boards.
Reactives (or polyurethanes): These adhesives have the highest tensile strength and heat resistance of any hot melts. They react with moisture to cure and are used in specialty adhesive applications that need a very strong bond as well as applications where the products are exposed to moisture or extreme temperatures.
