HAR announces success at several paper straw manufacturers!

HAR has become a leader in the re-emerging paper straw industry.  HAR offers several environmentally friendly water based adhesives that meet the stringent requirements of the paper straw industry.  Adhesives that:
  • Are designed for both flood coating and extrusion
  • Include only FDA approved components
  • Surpass the most stringent waters soak tests
  • Demonstrates excellent machining
  • Found to be easier to clean up
  • Found to offer excellent quick tack, excellent bonds and no flagging.
  • Found to improve yields; you use less to get better results

Why not plastic straws

A single plastic straw can take up to 200 years to decompose. An estimated half a billion plastic straws are discarded every day and far too many end up in our oceans.  Plastic straws are not biodegradable – instead, they slowly fragment into smaller and smaller plastics (a.k.a. microplastics), which fish and marine animals mistake for food, ingesting the plastic. It’s estimated that up to 71 percent of seabirds and 30 percent of turtles end up ingesting plastic to their stomachs.  For more information go to

Why Paper Straws – Here are the benefits of paper straws
  • Paper straws are biodegradable
  • Paper straws take less amount of time to decompose
  • Switching to paper straws will reduce the use of plastic straws
  • Paper straws are (relatively) affordable
  • Paper straws are safer for wildlife

HAR adhesive Technologies is committed to our future and focusing on paper straws is one small thing we can do.  We believe our commitment to the paper straw industry is more than just a good business decision, it is a statement that we value our ecosystem.  We only have one world and we must do whatever we can to be good stewards of the world that we have been given.

Ask us how we can support your move into the paper straw industry or how we can help your current paper straw operation improve your quality, lower your scrap, increase your productivity and lessen your clean up time.

It's clear that paper straws are still harmful to the environment, even if plastic straws are more harmful. In the end, paper straws still have large environmental consequences, and are definitely not eco-friendly. For the most part, they are still a single-use waste item.

I'm so glad to hear about more companies and organizations pushing for paper or other similar materials as opposed to plastics! I've always been one to shy away from plastics, it just gives me a bad taste in my mouth. We all need a little more education on the detrimental impacts plastic has and is still having on our planet. Way to go for helping people become more aware of how we treat ourselves and the earth we inhabit!

We started using non-plastic straws way back 2016. As per observation, there is much no difference between using a paper straw and a plastic straw. The only thing is, as you mention, plastic straws take up to 200 years to decompose. Anyway, thank you for taking part in supplying paper straw manufacturers what they need and for sharing this post. Also, please visit us at just in case you need our landscaping services in Westminster, CO.

At Allen Deck and Fence we support the campaign of not using plastic straws to save our ocean and the environment. And as such, we also appreciate and admire your company for taking part in the mass production of biodegradable paper straws by providing manufacturers the adhesive material that they need.
