The Original Customer
There are countless small to mid-sized companies that use adhesive as the key ingredient to bind nearly everything they sell together. I made several calls to Scott, who was in charge of production at a company that mounts graphic art posters to board stock and corrugated sheets. They are used for retail POP promotion so high quality is essential. Yet, it was not until their existing supplier, an international adhesive company, discontinued their specific laminating adhesive that they turned to HAR for help. Scott was a little desperate at this point because the replacement product they were forced to use was not working as well, and they were fighting wavy, bumpy, and wrinkled laminations. I always believed that HAR had a superior product, and this was our opportunity to prove it.
The solution we presented to Scott worked great, even better than the original product. With our help, Scott was now able to use one adhesive across all of his laminating applications, leaving his laminations looking smooth and polished. Additionally, by using our high solids technology, Scott used less adhesive, saving him time and money.
That was nearly nine years ago, and I have enjoyed servicing Scott and have appreciated his continued partnership with HAR. Over the years, when Scott has a question or needs adhesives for a new product, we work together on a solution. Today, we not only supply his laminating adhesive, we also supply his
hot melt adhesives and his
hot melt equipment needs.
I also try to be there for Scott and last year, Scott returned the favor by referring HAR to one of his strategic partners.
The Referral
I received a call from one of Scott’s strategic partners named Justin who had decided to go into the laminating business. Justin’s new laminator came with two pails of adhesive, and after trying to apply the adhesive on his own, he noticed their initial laminations did not look as clean as the laminations done by Scott’s company, supplied through HAR. Scott recommended he call Bill from HAR and said, “Bill and HAR take great care of me and they will take great care of you too.”
Justin called me and said, “HAR comes very highly recommended,” and that opened the door to a new opportunity and a new partnership. While some companies may have just sent Justin the exact product used by Scott, sight unseen, we always make it a point to go above and beyond for our customers. Regardless of the size of the opportunity, we are trained to work with the prospect face to face, ask questions, see their equipment, and understand their needs and expectations. Because I was willing to visit Justin, I was able to gain his confidence. He invited me to tour his facility where I was able to gain a complete understanding of his needs. Once we resolved his laminating needs, we quickly moved onto other areas where HAR could help.
The Appreciation
I take great pride in servicing my customers and I consider each and every new order a vote of confidence in our products and in our people. Yet, I am never more gratified than when one of my existing customers has the trust to refer HAR to a business in need of a solution.
