Imagine a multi-billion dollar company trying to source relatively small quantities of adhesives from another multi-billion dollar company. This particular manufacturing customer would require their supplier to:
- Interface with a sophisticated paperless purchasing system
- Manage their requirements and expectations
- Ship just-in-time shipments when needed
- Follow all custom order processing procedures
- Immediately remedy any discrepancies
When a large adhesive company shut down a multimillion-dollar production line because of a small, yet unresolved discrepancy, the manufacturing company turned to HAR - and we resolved their issue by the end of that same day.
While sitting with the buyer that morning, I was able to expedite an order that HAR shipped within the hour and it arrived at their facility that evening. This provided me with an opportunity to prove the value of HAR, and also allowed me to get to know the buyer. I learned that they were having issues sourcing an adhesive used to seal the large boxes that packaged their machines. Additionally, I learned that they were having difficulties sourcing a reliable adhesive for labeling cartons and a liquid adhesive used as a glue assist for some of their larger and more critical boxes. One by one the buyer transitioned these projects to HAR.
Our ability to meet every one of their unique requirements, every time, was quickly noticed. (For example, we still ship two drums and 4 boxes of adhesives on one pallet, to two separate facilities nearly every month. At the request of our customer, we put a blue label on one drum and a green label on the second drum to avoid any confusion or misuse of the two different liquid adhesives.) We earned a 100% vendor rating from this Fortune 100 Company in our very first year, which opened the door for more business. We began to take over the sourcing from Suppliers in related industries that were unable to meet our customer's requirements. These were new vendor relationships dictated by this customer. Specifically, these companies were told, "if you want to continue to supply us, you must sell through HAR.” And we were glad to help.
Over the years we have added:
- Silicones in drums, pails, and tubes
- Sealants
- Greases
- Self-wound tapes
- Glue sticks
Our next big opportunity came when a Chinese supplier could not live up to their proposed quality standards. In this case, we helped specify a High-Temperature Heat Resistance Pressure Sensitive Hot Melt Adhesive, set up a 48 inch Union Tool Brand Roll Coater in our facility, and then produced seven truckloads of parts while our customer worked through their issue. Ultimately, we ended up training them on the process our experts had perfected, which made it possible to become their key adhesive equipment and pressure sensitive adhesive supplier for this application.
Today we work closely with plant engineering from several plants, where we have provided adhesive, adhesive application equipment, and engineering support for several cost savings and time-saving projects.
Fifteen years ago I was just a guy that expedited a pallet of Polyethylene Hot Melt adhesive to keep a plant running. Today I am viewed as part of an A+ rated HAR team; a partner that is always there for our customers when needed, fully supporting their operational goals in a hassle-free environment. I look forward continuing to helping this customer and all of my customers rise above the competition together through our engineering, refined processes, and expert adhesive technology solutions.
Sincerely,
Mike Casper
P.S. Today HAR supports many Fortune 100 Manufacturing Companies that have similar requirements and needs. Even if a company is not spending a high dollar amount on adhesives, we always invest the same special care and time, helping our customers ultimately benefit from the unique HAR expertise and understanding of adhesives and adhesive application equipment.
