Hot Melt Adhesives

Fast-setting adhesive technologies supported by people who understand the application equipment.

Hot melt adhesives are used where fast set, immediate handling strength, efficient application, and high production speeds are important.

The HAR H-MELT brand has become an industry standard for end-of-line packaging, cartons, corrugated boxes, mailers and product assembly.  We supplement our H-Melt brand with specialized H.B. Fuller hot melt technologies and other partner supplied hot melts when warranted or requested to support woodworking, labeling, bookbinding, and other specialty or unique applications

Hot Melt Adhesives
Adhesive and Equipment Must Work Together

Temperature, tank condition, hose performance, nozzle selection, application pattern, compression, and maintenance can affect performance as much as the adhesive itself.

HAR’s adhesive and equipment teams can evaluate the complete system rather than treating the adhesive and application equipment as unrelated decisions.

Start With the Application

Technology We Support

EVA Hot Melts

Versatile, Proven Performance

Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) hot melts are among the most widely used industrial hot melt adhesives. They offer fast set speeds, good adhesion to many common substrates, and a broad range of formulations for different operating requirements.

EVA technology is a proven choice for applications where productivity, dependable bonding, and cost effectiveness are important.

Common applications: Case and carton sealing, tray forming, paper converting, bookbinding, product assembly, and general packaging.

Why consider EVA?

EVA offers an excellent balance of performance, versatility, availability, and economics. HAR can help determine the right formulation based on your substrates, line speed, application temperature, and finished-product requirements.

Metallocene Hot Melts

Cleaner-Running, High-Performance Technology

Metallocene hot melts combine excellent bonding performance with improved thermal stability and cleaner operation.

Their stability at application temperature can reduce char and degradation, helping keep tanks, hoses, filters, and nozzles cleaner while reducing maintenance and unplanned downtime.

Common applications: Case and carton sealing, food and beverage packaging, high-speed packaging lines, and coated or difficult-to-bond substrates.

Why consider metallocene?

Cleaner operation, lower coat weights, reduced maintenance, and less downtime can make a higher-performance adhesive more economical on a total-cost basis.

APAO Hot Melts

Flexible Bonds for Challenging Substrates

Amorphous poly-alpha-olefin (APAO) hot melts provide flexibility, longer open times, and strong adhesion to many difficult-to-bond materials.

APAO formulations can provide additional working time where parts cannot be assembled immediately after adhesive application and can perform well where flexibility or resistance to temperature extremes is important.

Common applications: Product assembly, foam bonding, filters, automotive components, plastics, and applications requiring longer open time.

Why consider APAO?

APAO can be an excellent option when a conventional hot melt sets too quickly, lacks flexibility, or doesn’t provide adequate adhesion to the substrates involved.

Polyamide Hot Melts

High Performance for Demanding Environments

Polyamide hot melts are designed for applications requiring greater heat resistance, chemical resistance, toughness, or adhesion than conventional hot melts can provide.

They bond well to many challenging materials and are frequently selected for industrial assemblies exposed to demanding conditions.

Common applications: Product assembly, automotive components, electronics, filters, textiles, and applications exposed to heat or chemicals.

Why consider polyamide?

When the finished product must withstand demanding temperatures or environments, polyamide technology can provide performance beyond standard hot melts.

Pressure-Sensitive Hot Melts

A Bond That’s Ready When You Are

Unlike conventional hot melts that lose tack as they cool, hot melt pressure-sensitive adhesives remain tacky, allowing adhesive to be applied at one point in the process and bonded later with pressure.

Formulations can be designed for permanent or removable bonds, different tack levels, and a variety of substrates.

Common applications: Labels and tapes, foam bonding, product assembly, paper converting, peel-and-seal applications, and specialty products.

Why consider pressure-sensitive hot melt?

These adhesives are particularly valuable when the manufacturing process requires the adhesive to remain active after application or as an alternative to tapes and other pre-applied bonding systems.

Signs Your Hot Melt Process Could Perform Better

  • Their current hot melt strings, chars, smokes, drips, or creates excessive cleanup.

  • Cartons or assembled products are opening after production.

  • Higher speeds require faster set or improved pattern control.

  • The adhesive is not bonding a coated, recycled, plastic, foam, or difficult substrate.

  • A product has become expensive, unavailable, or difficult to purchase.

  • They need adhesive and application-equipment support from one accountable team.
