Successfully Bonding HYDRABAN® 8000 with WZ3844P2Z

At HAR, some of our best opportunities begin when a customer comes to us frustrated after struggling with an application that simply isn’t performing the way it should.

Recently, we worked with a customer that was experiencing bonding failures while working with HYDRABAN® 8000 from Michelman, a water-based treatment designed to provide paper and paperboard with excellent water resistance, printability, and gluability for demanding packaging applications. HYDRABAN® 8000 is widely recognized for helping converters and manufacturers improve sustainability and recyclability while maintaining strong performance characteristics in packaging and converting environments.

The challenge our customer faced was not with the coating itself, but with achieving a dependable bond using competitive adhesive technologies. In real-world manufacturing environments, even materials designed with “excellent gluability” can create significant bonding challenges depending on production speeds, substrates, environmental conditions, and application methods.

Like many companies we support, the customer was not simply looking for an adhesive supplier. They were looking for answers.

After discussing the application in detail and understanding the process conditions, our technical team recommended our proprietary adhesive technology, WZ3844P2Z.

The results were extremely encouraging.

According to the customer, competitive technologies had resulted in inconsistent performance and bond failures, while WZ3844P2Z delivered the reliable bonding performance they were looking for when working with HYDRABAN® 8000 treated materials.

Situations like this reinforce something we strongly believe:

Adhesives are rarely just a product. They are part of a process.

Successful bonding performance depends on understanding the entire application — the substrate, coating technology, environmental conditions, equipment, production speeds, and the customer’s performance expectations.

That is why we strive every day to provide more than adhesive products alone. Our goal is to support our customers with technical experience, responsive service, adhesive expertise, and when needed, equipment and engineering support that help move applications from concept to successful production.

Over the years, we have found that some of the best solutions come from collaboration. Customers often reach out to us after experiencing issues with an existing technology, changes in product availability, production challenges, or performance limitations that are impacting their operation. In many cases, simply taking the time to listen, ask questions, and fully understand the application leads to better long-term outcomes.

We appreciate the opportunity to support customers working with innovative technologies like HYDRABAN® 8000 and are proud of the success our team achieved with WZ3844P2Z in this application.

If your company is facing adhesive performance challenges involving coated substrates, converting applications, packaging materials, or specialty papers, we would welcome the opportunity to start a conversation and explore whether we may be able to help.
